Two Minus Three Months

Dear Hazel,

You are 21 months!  You will be two in less than three months!  Where has this time gone?

I was just reading over Oliver's 21-month post (just to see...), and I'd noted that he was Frozen-obsessed.  Currently, at this very moment, you are carrying around our bluetooth speaker, which is playing "Let it Go".  You request "Ah-go!" every time we get into the car, and almost every time you see our Echo Dot on the counter.  You sing along with all the long words.  The snow blows white on the mountain tonight, not a footprint to be "SEEEEN!"  A kingdom of isolation, and it looks like I'm the "QUEEEEN!"  The wind is howling like this swirling storm in-"SIIIDE!"  Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I've "TRIIIED!"  You picked up your appreciation for Frozen on our drive from California to Illinois, where the only two movies loaded onto the iPad were Big Hero 6 and Frozen.  We haven't watched the movie much since we've been here, but the soundtrack is always in the car's CD player.

I don't have many stats for you, since there is no 21-month doctor's visit.  You are 22-ish pounds, as noted when we took you in the day after Christmas for an ear infection.  You have 12 teeth: four top front, four bottom front, and the first four molars.  You have charming little gaps on all four quadrants of your mouth where your canines will come in, soon, I think.  I love your big, gap-toothed grin!

You still suck your "I love you" fingers - the two middle fingers on your right hand.  You stick your other hand down my shirt for comfort, a habit I wish you'd break, if we're being honest.

"Mommy, where ARE you?" is one of my favorite phrases.  You'll ask it, and then if I don't answer right away, you will walk through the house calling "Are you?"

Another phrase you seem to find lots of opportunity to use is "I'm stuck."  Or, "I skuck!"  Sometimes, just "skuck!"  Useful when you're strapped into your carseat and would rather not be, when you can't get your shoe off, when you've crawled under something into a little too tight a space, when you're pulling on something that won't budge... the uses are endless!

You don't say a ton of two-word phrases, you you do say a ton of words.  And you will pretty much repeat anything.  My favorite, favorite phrase is "Love you!"  Sometimes it comes out "Byove you!"  Another favorite is "pease!"  You will ask for "boob pease!"

You love beans.  Black, pinto, it doesn't matter.  You enjoy edamame very much, but only if it goes straight from pod to mouth.  You don't want me to pop them out onto your plate for you.  Plain Greek yogurt, applesauce, peach cups, fruit and veggie pouches, and pasta pretty much round out your food repertoire.  Oh, and little nibbles of apples someone else (Oliver) has already eaten the skin off of.  I have a hard time getting you to eat a lot of proteins and veggies, but we're working on it.  You do not have Oliver's 21-month indiscriminating palate!

You have a delightful giggle, and also a little giggle that makes me think you're scheming.  You are a very happy kid, content to read a book or color on your own for a long time.  You and Oliver are hooked on Paw Patrol.  You want so badly to be able to stay at Oliver's school when we drop him off.  You are inquisitive and patient.  I love watching you grow into this little person you're becoming!

Love you!
